Celebrate My Birthday with a Cause Close to My Heart

This year, I’m celebrating my birthday a little differently–and I’d love for you to be part of it!
 
I’m proud to volunteer with Kids-TALK Children’s Advocacy Center, a program of The Guidance Center, where I serve on the steering committee to help expand services, strengthen facilities, and reach more children and families across Detroit and Wayne County.
 
If you know me, you know my passions: saving our children, protecting animals, and caring for our planet. This birthday, I’m focusing on the first, because every child deserves safety, support, and a chance to heal after abuse or severe trauma.
 
Kids-TALK does incredible work supporting children who have experienced abuse or neglect. They help kids navigate incredibly difficult situations with compassion, expertise, and care for the child and their family! Each year, more than 2,000 children in Wayne County come to Kids-TALK for help, making it the busiest CAC in the state.
 
Right now, Kids-TALK is working to grow to better meet the needs of children that need the program. The program has outgrown its current space and is expanding in Detroit so they can help even more children who need them.
 
This mission is especially meaningful to me—I’ve known the program’s founder, Nancy J. Diehl, since my days as a police beat reporter at the Detroit Free Press, when she was a prosecutor dedicated to protecting children. Her work, and the work of this amazing team, continues to inspire me.
