June 30 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am
FreeFree Mini Parenting Conference hosted by The Guidance Center
LGBTQ+ youth face disproportionate adversity. Parents and caregivers can make all the difference by engaging in supportive practices. Allies can make a huge impact in the lives of youth who are LGBTQ+ as advocates and in building resilience.
Session One: LGBTQ+ 101: Understanding SOGIE
SOGIE: Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression are characteristics common to all human beings. Everyone has them, not just LGBTQ+ people.
Presented by Paige Grudzien, LLMSW, CPS Community Organizer, SUDDs (Stop Underage Drinking/Drugs Coalition)
Session Two: How Parents Can Support Their LGBTQ+ Youth
Kids who have diverse SOGIE face additional obstacles. We will discuss how to promote safety and inclusive practices as well as strategies to show care and increase communication. Parents and caregivers are youth’s best advocates and have the potential to impact their lives and be a source love and strength.
Presented by Amreen Khan, LMSW, Assistant Director of Youth Services, The Guidance Center
