Children & Adolescents

At Adult & Family Services, we are committed to supporting young people and their families as they learn the skills they need to manage their mental health.  From individual counseling, family counseling, psychiatric services to education, we are here to help.

As the brain and body develop from infancy through adulthood, kids and teens may encounter an array of challenges.  Some issues may be easy to solve, while others may result in a crisis.  Some young people can deal with these challenges, while others may need assistance to navigate their way through these problems.

There are many different techniques that a therapist might take when working with a child.  What might be effective for a 5-year old, may not be the best approach for a 12-year old.  Play therapy, client-centered therapy, and family therapy are common treatment options.

While children and teens can struggle with almost any mental health condition, there are a few conditions that are more often present in younger individuals.  Depression, anxiety and OCD, ADD/ADHD, autism, bipolar disorder, addiction, and eating disorders are common among youths.

When a typically balanced child starts to demonstrate worrisome behaviors, such as isolation, self-harm, a drop in academic performance, or is acting out, these are red flags to seek professional guidance.
