SUMMARY:Youth Mental Health First Aid
DESCRIPTION:Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents\, family members\, caregivers\, teachers\, school staff\, peers\, neighbors\, health and human services workers\, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who do not have a mental health background. \nParticipants will learn how to: \n\nRecognize signs that a young person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health or substance use crisis\nInitiate conversations that encourage a young person to talk about a mental health or substance use problem\nDiscuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being\nAssist in a mental health or substance use crisis situation\nCheck in with one’s own mental well-being and take action as needed\n\n6.5 CEUs for Social Workers\, 6.25 hours SCECHs \nFor more information or to register contact Laura Fuller at 313-388-4630 x7043 or lfuller@guidance-center.org.
