What is therapy?

(link to) Therapy (also known as psychotherapy) is a treatment service designed to help you advance your recovery and improve the quality of your life. You will gain the most benefit from therapy if you can keep regularly scheduled appointments, openly discuss the challenges you are experiencing in your life, and work toward your recovery goals during and between therapy sessions.

What does a therapist do?

What can I expect from therapy at The Guidance Center?

(link to) Your therapist will initially meet with you to get a clear understanding of your personal strengths, your specific needs, primary concerns, and personal goals for change. They will then schedule a meeting with you and any family, friends, or other supporters you would like to participate in your person-centered planning process (also known as treatment planning). After you establish a treatment plan, your therapist will work with you to schedule regular appointments that are convenient for you.

Treatment planning is important.

(link to) Your treatment plan is your roadmap to recovery. It identifies who will do what, when, where, how, how often, and for how long to help you accomplish your recovery goals. Meetings with your therapist and other treatment members will be guided by the steps outlined in your treatment plan. The focus is on recovery, finding solutions, and developing skills. We will help you work toward specific goals, build on your personal strengths, utilize your natural supports and the services and supports available to you at The Guidance Center and in your community.
