The Guidance Center’s AmeriCorps program
hosts August 5 open house to hire new members
The Guidance Center's Downriver CARES AmeriCorps (americorps.gov) program is hosting an Open House on Friday, August 5, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to recruit members. Applicants will learn about all open positions and meet with current members and the Downriver CARES AmeriCorps director. Interested parties also may apply on the spot.
Agency AmeriCorps members provide services in the areas of education, family, youth and community development to Guidance Center and other community based non-profits in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County. Members serve Monday-Thursday at their assigned placement site and come together every Friday to perform community service projects.
The Open House will be held at the agency's Center for Excellence located at 13111 Allen Road (Building 2) in Southgate. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Recent college grads are encouraged to attend. The program has 30 full-time slots to fill.
Multiple AmeriCorps positions are available for the term beginning September 26 and ending in August 2012. Full-time members who commit to a one-year term earn $12,100 plus free health insurance and dental, receive child care and food assistance, and receive an education award of $5,350 with student loan deferrals and interest paid during term of service.
