AmeriCorps

promoting family literacy
and volunteerism

Family Resource Center
- seven
convenient locations offering lending libraries of books, toys, games,
videos, and literacy bags as well as parent/child playgroups and parent
interest classes such as infant massage and positive discipline.

Head Start
- a free, quality preschool
program for 3-4 year olds in low-income families. The primary goal is to
increase school readiness and social competency while assisting families to
break the cycle of poverty.

Let's Talk
- provides support and training to early childhood professionals using a
curriculum that promotes important early communication and learning
strategies in children birth to five years old. The goal is to
encourage early communication and language development while fostering the
social and emotional competencies that children need for school readiness.

Michigan
School Readiness Program (MSRP)
- a quality preschool
program for four-year-old children with educational risk factors that may
hinder their performance in school.

Parents As
Teachers (PAT) - a Parent Educators visits the family in their home to
provide information on a child's development and offer assistance to the parent(s) as the child's first and most important teacher(s). Also provided
are group activities with other parents to share experiences, developmental
screenings, and connections with other services.
